Bardez Veterans fought back from a goal down to plough their way to a smooth 5-1 win against Navelim Veterans in the Above 50 GVFC Football Tournament at Sinquetim ground.
Stunned by a fifth-minute Claudio Dias goal, Bardez recovered well to draw level in the 10th minute through Augustine Rodrigues. Two minutes later, Bardez took the lead when a Raymond Alvares try hit the post and went in off goalkeeper Glorio D’Mello.
Just before the halftime whistle, the visitors further consolidated their lead when Alwyn Fernandes’ left-footed try found the far corner to make it 3-1. Though Navelim managed to clamp down their defence in the second half, they were unable to find a second goal till the end.
Bardez waited patiently and scored two goals in the last couple of minutes with Alex Alvares and Dominic Fernandes getting their names on the scoresheet. The first semifinal of the Above 40 competition will see Verna Veterans take on Chinchinim on Sunday.
