Women runners will hold centre stage at the 12th SKF Goa River Marathon to be held at Chicalim, Vasco on December 11 this year.
Disclosing this at a media conference held in the city on Saturday, Nitin Bandekar, president, Vasco Sports Club (VSC), promoters of the event said, “We have launched the theme of 'Women Run the World' to promote the importance of social inclusion and welcome female runners and walkers of all ages from across the country. We are offering a 15 per cent discount for every woman registrant and for the first time, the prize money for both women and men runners will be equal starting from this year.”
This is the second successive year in which, SKF India, the leading bearings manufacturer will be partnering with Goa River Marathon (GRM) to organise the popular event. The event will start and finish at the Chicalim panchayat ground and would be held in three competitive categories of 42 km (full marathon), 21 km (half marathon) and the 10 km race. The registrations for the race have already begun and runners can register for the marathon on the website: www.skfgoarivermarathon.com. The last date for registrations is November 15.
