Bhatikar Model High School, Margao, emerged champions of the South District Under-17 boys’ leather ball cricket tournament organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs at the Fatorda Sports Complex, defeating New Education Institute, Quepem in the final.
After winning the toss, New Education Institute opted to bat and posted 91 for 9 in their allotted overs. Uzair top-scored with 37 runs off 42 balls. For Bhatikar Model High School, Rudra Patil claimed two wickets, while Pratham Prabhakar, Vinit Kamat and Ansh Harmalkar chipped in with one wicket each.
In reply, Bhatikar Model High School comfortably chased down the target, thanks to a steady 21 off 27 balls by Ayush Gaonkar and a quick 19 off 14 balls from Vinit Kamat. They secured victory by six wickets with five overs to spare.
For New Education Institute, Tej picked up two wickets, while Nihal and Samnath took one wicket each.
The winning team was accompanied by their physical education teachers Rajesh Chowgule and Sandesh, along with Manthan Adpaikar (TSO, Mormugao) and other officials.
