CAC Cansaulim booked their place in the semi-finals of the 24th Fr. Basilio Andrade Memorial Football Tournament with a composed 2“0 victory over A.A. de Majorda Utorda Calata at the Musson Ground, Majorda.
Majorda dominated possession early on, with Beevan D’Mello and Ashley Rodrigues repeatedly testing the Cansaulim defence. Beevan’s powerful effort was pushed away by the Cansaulim goalkeeper, while Ashley missed a clear chance after a heavy first touch. Oscar Braganza and Lysander Barreto combined well to create openings, but Majorda’s finishing let them down.
Against the run of play, Cansaulim found their rhythm. Milroy Fernandes tried his luck from distance before Ashwin Fernandes began to threaten down the flanks. After being denied once by Majorda keeper Fredy Fernandes with a fine save, Ashwin broke through again, cutting in from the left to calmly slot the ball into the bottom corner for the opener.
Cansaulim doubled their lead in unusual fashion when a Roystone Correia clearance rebounded off Ashwin and deflected into the Majorda net, leaving Fredy helpless.
Majorda pressed hard in the second half, with Beevan, Ashley, and Russolo Fernandes combining well, but their efforts were repeatedly thwarted by a disciplined Cansaulim defence. Lysander came closest with a fierce long-range attempt that missed by inches, while Beevan narrowly shot wide in the dying moments.
Despite enjoying more of the ball, Majorda failed to convert their chances, while Cansaulim’s clinical finishing proved decisive.
Ashley Rodrigues (A.A. de Majorda Utorda Calata) was named Man of the Match, with the award presented by Andre Braganza.
