Chowgule Sports Club easily beat a youthful Youth Club of Vasco by 64 runs while Paramount surprised a star-studded Iqbal XI by 18 runs to enter the semifinals of the Chandrakant Karapurkar Trophy played at Konkan Railway grounds, Margao.
In the morning match, Youth Club of Vasco won the toss and put Chowgule in. As always, the bowling was disciplined but dropped catches put paid to any hopes of getting Chowgule out for a low score. Rijul Pathak (30), Rohit Naik (57 not out) and Dheeraj Yadav spanked the bowling to reach 175 for 6. Vishal Upadhyay took 2 for 28. Youth CV could not keep up with the asking rate and finished at 112 for eight, losing by 64 runs. Dheeraj Yadav and Rohit Naik picked two wickets each
In the afternoon match, Paramount CC surprised Iqbal XI by 18 runs in an interesting duel. Paramount chose to bat first and posted 169 for 6 in 20 overs. Aditya Dalal (47) and Pawan Naik (39) stitched a 97-run opening partnership in only 10 overs. However, Iqbal fought back and restricted Paramount. Nitin Bind (2/29) bowled well for Iqbal.
Damodar Redkar (23), Vasudev Kumbhar (32) Nihal Bind (35) and Tausif Jamadar (27 not out) did well but could not finish the match as Iqbal scored 152 for 6 in 20 overs, losing by 18 runs. Shivank Desai (2/27) and Kaushal Singh (2/26) restricted Iqbal.
