Chhattisgarh trounce Goans Hockey

Chhattisgarh Hockey hammered Goans Hockey 11-0 in the boys section of the Hockey India Junior West Zone Championship 2024 taking place in Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh on Thursday.

The goalscorers for Chhattisgarh Hockey were Mahavir Verma (2’), Mohit Nayak (4’, 10’, 26’, 32’, 43’, 49’), Patel Prakash (30’), Captain Anand Kumar Suryavanshi (39’, 51’), and Manash Patel (41’).

In the other matches of the day at the same venue, Hockey Madhya Pradesh emerge victorious in the girl’s section while the boy’s category saw Hockey Maharashtra, Hockey Madhya Pradesh secure victories.

In the only women's encounter, Hockey Madhya Pradesh defeated Chhattisgarh Hockey, 3-0. Kajal( 29') gave Madhya Pradesh the lead before Jayant Sujata (46) and Sneha Patel (58')

In the first men's clash of the day, Hockey Maharashtra defeated Hockey Gujarat, 14-0. Kartik Ramesh Patare (4', 5', 17', 32', 47', 49') scored six goals while Vishal Shridhar Mandade (6', 20', 35', 38', 49') scored five goals as well. Arjun Santosh Hargude (50', 56') and Santosh Ramesh Birajdar (10') scored for Maharashtra as well.

Hockey Madhya Pradesh defeated Hockey Rajasthan in another men's fixture, 4-1. Mohd. Anas scored a brace (19', 51') while Subhan Abid (13'), and Vishvesh Singh Thakur (49') scored a goal each for Hockey Madhya Pradesh. Abhishek Singh (48') was the only scorer for Rajasthan.

In the opening match of the day boys section, Dadra & Nagar Haveli And Daman & Diu Hockey registered a thrilling 3-2 victory against Goans Hockey in a see-saw match at Veer Narmad South Gujarat University Hockey Ground, Surat, Gujarat

Ankit Sharma (27’) netted a field goal to give the lead to Dadra & Nagar Haveli And Daman & Diu Hockey, however, Goans Hockey Captain Gourav C Shetty (27’) equalised the score a few seconds later.

Also, Pawan Yadav (32’) restored Dadra & Nagar Haveli And Daman & Diu Hockey’s lead, but once again Goans Hockey levelled the score as Francis Singh (35’) found the back of the net through a penalty corner.

Eventually, it was Aryan Pal (44’) who scored a decisive goal and helped Dadra & Nagar Haveli And Daman & Diu Hockey register a close win.

In the second and final match of the day, Chhattisgarh Hockey outclassed Hockey Gujarat 8-0.

For Chhattisgarh Hockey, Avi Manikpuri (1’, 26’) opened the scoring following which Om Kumar Yadav (14’, 19’, 37’, 41’) netted four goals, while Pritam Kujur (21’) and Sarthi Liyansh (30’) scored a goal each.
