Clube de Salgaocar continued their strong run in the Goa Professional League with a 3“1 victory over Geno FC on Saturday. Salgaocar made a flying start, with Selwyn Miranda scoring inside the first minute to give the hosts an early lead. Geno equalised in the 8th minute through Liston Cardozo after a long throw caused chaos in the box.
Salgaocar regained control in the 27th minute when ShridharÂnath Gawas drilled a clean strike from the edge of the box, putting his side 2“1 up. Geno had chances to level, notably a free header by Sankalp Kankonkar in the 34th minute that went wide, while Cardozo received a yellow card just before halftime.
The third goal came in the 63rd minute when Thokchom Beckham Singh created space from the corner, assisting Isac Zomuanpuia, who finished confidently to seal the 3“1 win. Geno pressed late but were thwarted by Salgaocar’s solid defence and goalkeeper Sanij Bugde.
At Nagoa ground, Dempo SC edged Guardian Angel SC 3“2 in an entertaining clash. After a goalless first half, Arnold Oliveira opened the scoring with a curling free-kick. Dempo extended their lead to 2“0 in the 58th minute via an own goal by Suman Lepcha. Murphy Fernandes added a third in the 66th minute following a precise pass from Mevan Dias.
Guardian Angel fought back late, with Fhezer Gomes converting a penalty in the 83rd minute and adding a second soon after, making it 3“2. Despite a tense finish, Dempo held on to claim all three points.
