Compassion SC showcased an impressive performance, overwhelming Ambelim with an 11-1 victory in the Khelo India Under-15 Girls Football Tournament held at Sinquetim Sports Complex, Navelim, on Sunday. From the outset, it was clear that Compassion SC was in control, dismantling Ambelim's defence with ease. Sahana Gaonkar set the tone early, scoring two goals in the 8th and 59th minutes. Sanika Borges followed suit, netting five goals in the 17th, 30th, 39th, 52nd, and 66th minutes. Clea Colaco also had a standout performance, contributing four goals in the 5th, 21st, and 26th minutes. Ambelim managed to score a consolation goal in the 44th minute, with Gwyneth Fernandes finding the net.
Sub jr hockey: Goans Hockey in Pool G
The 14th edition of the Hockey India Sub Junior Men National Championship will take place in Chandigarh from September 23 to October 3. Goans Hockey finds itself in Pool G, alongside Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu Hockey, the Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu, and Hockey Gujarat. The top team from each of the eight pools will qualify for the quarterfinals, leading to the semifinals, a third-place playoff, and the final.
Cyclathon held at Benaulim
A cyclathon event was organised by the Cana Benaulim village panchayat on Sunday to promote the "Swachata Hi Seva" campaign. The rally began at the Benaulim panchayat office, covering a route to Cavelossim and back. The deputy sarpanch Glyda Fernandes, who flagged off the rally, emphasised the event's focus on cleanliness and community involvement, highlighting its significance in fostering environmental awareness and honouring Mahatma Gandhi's legacy. She said that there are other events lined up for the campaign. Panchayat secretary Yogesh Fatarpekar, panch members Genciana Barreto, Manoj Kesarkar, Resica Fernandes and staff members were also present.
