Compassion FC secures a semifinal berth from South Goa in the GFA Girls Under-14 football league by topping the pool with seven points from three games with two wins and one draw.

Before the start of Tuesday's match against Canacona Sports and Cultural Club, the Compassion FC girls needed 17 goals to get to the top of the table, which they did in great style by scoring a 24-0 win against debutants Canacona SCC.

Compassion scored 14-0 till the lemon break and added 10 more in the second half with Pearl Fernandes going on a rampage, scoring 14 goals (3', 7', 8', 11', 15', 19', 22', 23', 24', 30', 42', 48', 49', 50'). Moncy Vaz scored four goals, Sanika Borges scored a brace, and Sahana Gaonkar, Gretchen Vaz, Sarita Chettri scored a goal each while Canacona conceded one self-goal.

The player of the match prize was awarded to Moncy Vaz for setting up Pearl's most goals. With the big win Compassion FC and Union of Chinchinim Villagers have made it to the semifinals and will play the two top North Goa teams. In the North Zone, FC Goa have already confirmed their qualification while the second-placed team is yet to be decided.

Aivao YC edge past 9-man Nauxim SC
Aivao Youth Club defeated Nauxim Sports Club 4-2 in GFA Second Division League on Tuesday at Taleigao ground.

When the whistle was blown, Nauxim SC played with only nine players, handing a two-man advantage to the opponents. The first half was dominated by Aivao and they took the lead in the 7th minute through Neetesh Kandolkar. The player doubled the lead in the 12th minute.

In the 22nd minute, Manoj Zambaulikar scored the third for Aivao and the fourth was scored by Askshay Gauris. Sagar Faterpekar reduced the margin for Nauxim SC in the 35th minute. In the second half, Nauxim doubled their score through Avesh Faterpekar's goal in the 49th minute.

Bhatikar Model HS reach Sardessai Trophy semis
Bhatikar Model High School, Margao reached the semifinals of the Late Dilip Sardessai Trophy under-16 boys cricket tournament organised by Goa Cricket Association by thrashing Cuncolim United High School by 86 runs at the Konkan Railway Cricket Ground, Navelim, Margao.

Electing to bat first, Bhatikar Model made 162 all out in 34.2 overs with Akshit Pai top-scoring with 35 (30 balls) as he received good support from Aaheesh Prabhugaonkar (22), Ansh Harmalkar (19) and Aryan Chowgule (16). The successful bowlers for Cuncolim United were Prince Bind (4-30), Chanaskh Manerkar (2-44) and Gaurish Shelke (1-15).

In reply, Cuncolim United folded up for just 76 in 23.1 overs, thanks to some fiery fast bowling by left-armer Arin Angle who picked 5-17. Arin received good support from Ansh Harmalkar (2-5), Pratham Prabhugaonkar (1-13), Vinit Kamat (1-7) and Aaheesh Prabhugaonkar (1-10). For Cuncolim United, only Prince Bind (11) reached double figures. Bhatikar Model will meet Damodar High School in the semifinals of Salcete Taluka on Feb 23.

Goan taekwondo teams for nationals at Hyderabad
The Taekwondo Association of Goa announced its teams for the 5th National Cadet Kyorugi Taekwondo Championships to be held from February 24-26 at GMC Balayogi Indoor Stadium, Hyderabad, Telangana.

Teams: Boys - Vedant Vishant Vernekar, Sohan Fernandes, Loyd Dacosta, Mohammad Ali, Romil Sadhaye, Kaushik Rathod, Moshin Choudhary, Mayank Kumar and Srikant Lamani; Coach - Sunil Sharma, Team Manager - Giri Kashinath Kurpaskar; Girls team “ Kanishka Devshekar, Megan Furtado, Samrudhi Patil, Hafiza Sayyed, Sheikh Iram Karol, Amina Karnachi, Sneha Yadhav; Coach - Siraj Khan, Team Manager - Mamta Devi.

Chess player Diya felicitated
Margao MLA Digambar Kamat felicitated Diya Sawal at the Margao Carnival Shigmo Festival parade. Diya has won five medals including two gold, two silver and one bronze on offer in the Under-9 Asian Chess Championship in Sri Lanka.

The fourth standard student of Manovikas English Medium School, Margao reigned supreme in all three categories, Rapid, Blitz and Classical and achieved the feat. She is the daughter of Dipali Digambar Sawal, vice-chairperson of Margao Municipal Council. She trains under coach Prakash Vikram Singh.
