Defending champions Curtorim Gymkhana kicked off the 24th Fr Basilio Andrade Memorial Tournament with a dramatic 4-2 victory over a determined Fr Agnelo Sports Club, Paroda, at Musson Ground, Majorda.
Curtorim’s star forward Veron Fernandes stunned the crowd early on with a superb solo effort, weaving past a defender before calmly finishing past Paroda’s goalkeeper Ravil to give his team the lead. However, Paroda fought back after halftime, with Savio Vales equalizing from a well-delivered corner by Drenzil Vaz.
Momentum swung further in Paroda’s favor as Godwin showcased great skill to score and put them ahead against the run of play. Curtorim pushed back fiercely, and Veron’s powerful shot was denied by Ravil, but moments later, Veron found the net again to restore parity at 2-2.
In the closing stages, Curtorim took control. Anselm put them ahead with a clinical finish, and Ryan Fernandes sealed the victory with a confident strike, sparking jubilant celebrations among Curtorim fans.
