Navelim Sporting Club secured a narrow 1-0 victory over CAC Cansaulim to book their place in the quarterfinals of the 24th Bro. Eulalio Vaz Memorial Football Tournament, organised by Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, and played at the Don Bosco Ground on Saturday.
The first half saw both teams create scoring opportunities but fail to convert. Arron of CAC Cansaulim missed a clear chance in the 10th minute, while Meliston Dias of Navelim Sporting squandered an opportunity from close range, leaving the score goalless at the break.
In the second half, both sides displayed urgency in attack but continued to struggle in front of goal. The deadlock was finally broken in the 50th minute when Selwin Gomes rose high to head home from a well-delivered corner, netting what proved to be the match-winning goal.
For his decisive contribution, Selwin Gomes was named Man of the Match and received his award from Santan Colaco, member of Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda.
