As Goa braces for the long Diwali weekend, the coastal belt is once again preparing for sleepless nights.

The familiar thud of basslines and the reverberation of high-powered sound systems will return to the villages of Chapora, Vagator, Baga, Anjuna and other parts of a stretch already worn thin by years of noise, late-night chaos and unending musical marathons through the tourist season.

What should have been a time for family gatherings and festive calm has instead morphed into a week-long sonic siege. The decibel culture – which authorities claim to be monitoring with warnings of hefty penalties for violations – appears poised to return with greater force.

This Diwali stretch, from October 17 to 25, is packed with several events lined up even as domestic travel activity is likely to reduce, given that people celebrate Diwali at home.

Meanwhile, from Stomp Experience 22.0 and Full Spectrum 65.2 to Re-Psych 25.0 and Chapora Dance Ritual 8.0, the coastal villages are once again likely to fall victim to the onslaught of loud music.

Flyers and online promotions promise “psychedelic journeys” and “non-stop trance till sunrise.”

In Vagator, Amalgamation 10.0 will be followed by Bassline Travellers 20.0, while another party hub in Baga has begun marketing its event as a “Dance Under the Lights.”

The Bassline organisers boast of “international and homegrown psytrance acts” at the “iconic riverside venue” for “a night of deep grooves, psychedelic journeys, and non-stop energy.”

Even after the fireworks fade, the noise will likely persist. Sound of Estuary 59.0, scheduled for October 25, describes itself as a “non-stop seaside trance till sunrise.”

Its highlights read – “DJ Night, Fire and LED shows, full-night-to-sunrise event, completely open-air seaside venue, 360-degree sea view, nonstop music-trance, EDM, techno.” “Experience a multi-sensory spectacle with immersive visuals, pounding bass, pyrotechnics and relentless energy—the ultimate celebration Goa’s underground has to offer,” another organiser stated with several other such events too indicating what the long weekend holds for the coastal villages.
