Damodar English High School, Gudi-Paroda emerged as the winners in the Sub-Jr hockey after defeating St Anthony HS, Monte de Guirim 6-5 via tie-breaker in the State level hockey championship, at Astro truf - Peddem Mapusa.
St Anthony found the net through Sairam in the 10th minute. During the second quarter, Damodar EHS played to a set pattern by keeping the ball in the Monte De Guirim side's half and scored the equaliser in the 22nd minute through Amit.
The third quarter was more equally balanced as no team could find the net but showed more maturity, by putting pressure to get the goal. However, the Damodar goalkeeper proved too hard to beat.
Ultimately, in the last quarter of play, Shaish and Gaurav gave the lead to Damodar School by scoring in the 48th and 52nd minutes respectivley. However, the joy did not last long as Gopal and Raju netted goals in the 54th and 58th minute respectively.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, Damodar EHS proved to be the better shooters.
In the girls' section, St Anthony hammered Damodar EHS, Gudi 8-0 in a one sided match.
Feral Furtado, Ex- MLA, and Secretary Goan Hockey gave away the trophies and certificates to the winners and runners-up in the presence of Anjulo P Fernandes, Abhay Bhamaikar, South Goa District President and Candida.
