Damodar English HS Gudi and Fr. Agnel HS Pilar moved into the semi-finals of the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs Nehru Hockey U15 Boys tournament by registering convincing wins yesterday at Hockey Stadium Peddem Mapusa.
Damodar English HS Gudi trounced St, Antony High School Calangute 8-0 while Fr. Agnel HS Pilar faced hiccups on their way to 4-2 over St. Jude HS Betalbatim.
Suhail and Sahil, scored two goals apiece for the Gudi school followed by Vatharh, Gundu, Shreysh and Ansh Goankar.
The Gudi school started the scoring in the second minutes and thereafter scored goals in the 8, 18, 19, 33, 47, 57 and 59 minutes, half of the goals were penalty conversion whereas an equal number were field goals.
In the Pilar-Betalbatim clash, Betalbatim opened the scoring in the 29th minute with a penalty corner conversion from Mahesh and a minute later the Pilar scored to restore parity also through a penalty conversion from Sahil.
Fr. Agnel Pilar added two quick goals with a field goal from Edimchube in the 33rd minute, a field goal to make it 2-1, followed by a goal in the 41st minute by Sahil, his second goal of the match again through a penalty conversion to make it 3-1.
Fr Agnel Pilar and Damodar English will clash in the semi-final on August 26.
In the 55th minute, St Jude pulled one back with a goal from Mahesh, his second of the match, with a penalty corner conversion, 3-2, but three minutes later Fr Agnel Pilar put the issue beyond doubt with a goal from Faizel.
On Friday, St. Anthony High School Monte de Guirim and Janata HS Mapusa also moved into the semi-finals.
St. Anthony HS, which got a bye into the first round, began their campaign on an emphatic note trouncing Holy Cross HS Bastora 6-0, with Suraj Kharsel scoring a hattrick, Nahshon Fernandes netting two goals while Rohan K found the target once.
Suraj opened the scoring for Guirim school with a field goal in the 9th minute. Thereafter, the Bastora school, coached by Sports Authority of Goa coach Eliter Fernandes, launched sustained efforts to draw level but failed to get past the rival defense.
On the other hand, the Guirim school, coached by another Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) coach Victor Albuquerque, increased their lead through a field goal from Nashon in the 35th minute and 11 minutes later added the third one, again a field goal from Nashon.
Thereafter Suraj struck in the 52 and 58th minute, both penalty conversions, to take the issue beyond doubt and register his hat trick while Rohan scored in the 55th minute.
In the other match, Janata HS Mapusa got the better of St Britto HS Mapusa 4-0.
The school coached by two coaches Abbusaliya Havaldar and Ayyaz Khan, scored twice in the 29th and 41st minute, both which were field goals, while Sachin Lamani and Salman scored in the 31st and 36th minute, one which was a penalty stroke and the second one by Alman a field goal
Both the semis will take place on August 26, with Janata HS Mapusa taking on St. Anthony High School Monte de Guirim and Gudi-Paroda school meeting the Pilar school.
