MARGAO
Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda edged past St Anthony Marna Siolim 3-2 and moved into the semifinals of the Gold Silver Rolling Trophy at Rosary Church ground, Navelim on Sunday.
Fatorda striker Rishabh Karapurkar sent in a long ball to Hanslum Furtado, who took control of the ball and pulled the trigger to find the Siolim net in the 9th minute. It didn't take long for Siolim to equalise as fifteen minutes later, Sangam Pednekar crossed a ball to Pushparaj Mandrekar, who rose high and sent a glancing header into the Fatorda net.
Fatorda then increased the lead through Sweton Rebello in the 39th minute, 2-1. Hanslum Furtado, after foxing a couple of Siolim defenders, took a powerful shot which sailed into the Siolim net in the 50th minute, 3-1. Siolim didn't give up thier hopes and Pushparaj Mandrekar scored one more goal for Siolim with just a few minutes left for the final whistle, 2-3.
Sao Jose de Areal move into final
Sao Jose de Areal beat Rossman Cruz Nagoa Verna 8-7 via tiebreaker to enter the final of the Fatima Trophy inter-village football tournament organised by Dicarpale SC at Dicarpale ground on Sunday.
Ajay Satarkar of Rossman should have netted in the 6th minute but his move was thwarted by John Gomendes of Areal. Areal too missed chances to score through Vellinton Faleiro and Platini Andrade in the 9th and 12th minutes respectively. The match remained goalless and Areal won the tiebreaker. Sao Jose de Areal will meet Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda in the final on October 16.
Tadeo, Josephine win carrom titles
Tadeo Fernandes and Josephine Furtado emerged champions in the gents and ladies categories at Inter Seraulim Carrom Tournament organised by United Sports Club of Seraulim at the club premises. In the ladies category, Josephine Furtado beat Maria Alvares in straight sets.
In the men's singles, Tadeo Fernandes got the better of Velentino Vales 29-18 to claim the title. The president of the club, Policarpo Cruz welcomed the guests and later proposed the vote of thanks. The ladies tournament attracted 10 participants while the men's tournament had 28 participants. Gerrrald Fernandes was awarded the Youngest player of the tournament.
Monteiro Ward Utorda win 5-a-side title
Monteiro Ward Utorda emerged winners beating Gabriel Cruz East/Baden 1-0 in the inter-ward futsal 5-a-side tournament organised by Parish Youth of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utorda at Cota Cino ground, Utorda on Sunday.
Parish priest Fr Arvino Fernandes welcomed while chief guest Remy Pereira, president of UC Utorda, spoke on the occasion. Anthony LC Fernandes, guest of honour was also present. The winner was scored by Frazer Fernandes. In the women's inter-ward tiebreaker tournament, Loyala Vaddo beat Gabriel Cruz West 2-1 to emerge as winners. Swizel D'Costa proposed the vote of thanks.
