MARGAO
Dicarpale Sports Club defeated St Anthony Sports Club, Assolda 5-4 via sudden death to move to the quarters of the 17th All Goa Guirdolim Panchayat Cup, organised by Guirdolim Club, at Chandor Church Sports Complex, on Friday.
The match started with play confined to the midfield but it was Assolda who looked the stronger of the teams. Good goalkeeping by Francisco Colaco of Dicarpale ensured that the Assolda forwards were denied three clear goalscoring opportunities in the first half.
A couple of counter attacks by Dicarpale could not yield goals as their strikers were wayward. Both teams were level without scoring at the lemon break.
Changing over, it was Assolda who looked likely to score but as in the first session, their strikers missed opportunities. Sanju Trikonni scored in the 36th minute off a corner-kick to make it 1-0 for Dicarpale. Assolda equalised in the 40th minute through Sunny Fernandes whose powerful strike from handshaking distance gave no chance to the Dicarpale keeper. The match ended 1-1 at regulation time.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Aaren, Jaison, Lyron and Francisco scored for Dicarpale while only Succour, Vicky and Allwyn were on target for Assolda.
Francisco Colaco of Dicarpale was awarded the player of the match by Ex President of Guirdolim Club Gidwan D'Costa.
