MARGAO
Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda downed Ambelim SC 3-1 to enter the final of the II Cavelossim Villagers UK Cup, organised by Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim, at Fr Druston and Wellington ground, Cavelossim.
Samson latched on to a pass by Velroy Fernandes whose shot was deflected from defender Cayven Araujo into the goal to give Ambelim a 1-0 lead.
Don Bosco mounted an attack at the Ambelim goal but for much of the game was confined to midfield allowing Ambelim defenders to regroup. However, Hanslum Furtado and Mario Noronha did attempt some goal-bound attempts which were easily collected by Ambelim keeper Ivan D'Silva.
In the second half, Don Bosco coach Vincent Barbosa changed the game-plan when they started using the long ball with effect against the inexperienced defenders of Ambelim. In the 20th minute, Cliff Barreto gave a through pass to Valton D'Souza who dribbled past Roque Borges of Ambelim to shoot past Ivan for the equalising goal for Don Bosco.
Don Bosco continued to attack by lobbing the ball into the Ambelim penalty area with Rishabh Karapurkar holding the ball and passing it to Mario Noronha whose first-time attempt shot was blocked by Gileston Fernandes but the ball fell again to Rishabh who tapped in to give Don Bosco a 2-1 lead.
Despite being 1-2 down, Ambelim failed to mount any serious challenge with Samson the lone attacker upfront getting no support from his forwards.
In the 40th minute, Elroy Barreto scored the third goal for Don Bosco when he shot into the empty net from the left flank with keeper Ivan beaten by the flight of the ball. They will now meet strong challengers Fr Agnelo YSC Paroda in the final on November 25.
