Goan chess player AIM Ethan Vaz continued his excellent form by remaining undefeated at the National Schools Chess Championship 2021 (Under-11 Open), scoring 8 points out of a possible 9, with 7 wins and 2 draws in the 9-round tournament.
A total of 582 players from across the country had participated in the tournament. In a nail-biting finish that saw as many as six players tied for joint first place, Ethan missed the podium and was placed fourth on Buchholz tie-break score.
Owing to his performance, Ethan has been selected to represent India at the Asian Schools Chess Championships 2021 (Under-11 Open) to be organised online later this month.
Ethan dedicated his performance to his school and his coach. "This wouldn't have been possible without their blessings and unconditional support always," said Ethan, a student of Class 5 at The King's School, Sao Jose de Areal, who is coached by Prakash Vikram Singh of Chess Guru Goa Academy, Margao.
