First Touch Football School win friendly

First Touch Football School, Kannur defeated hosts Benfica Youth Club 4 -2 in a friendly match organised as part of the golden jubilee year of the Benfica Youth Club at Panchayat ground, Chicalim.

The teams were tied 1-1 at half time. Benfica shot into the lead off a goal by midfielder Yeshwant. The team from Kannur equalised through a well-taken penalty kick by Devdas just before the half time.

In the second half, the Kannur team scored three quick goals as Allan Stalin scored a brace and Devdas added the fourth. Rohit scored in the dying minutes for Benfica to reduce the margin. Earlier, the teams were introduced to former players Vishant Pednecar and Nelson Landez. Yeshwant from Benfica YC was named as the best midfielder and Devdas of First Touch School was awarded as the best player. After the match, Bernadinho Velho and Lala Shah distributed mementoes and trophies.

Verna Veterans move into final
Verna Veterans beat Joe Cookies 4-3 via tiebreaker to enter the final of the Henry Araujo Memorial football tournament played at Loutolim ground. Vitorino Colaco gave the lead to Joe Cookies which was later cancelled by Josrose Oliveira for Verna Veterans. In the shootout, Remy, Sandeep, Rosario and Santan scored for Verna Veterans, while Joserose, Agnelo and Baptista netted for Joe Cookies.

Compassion FA inch closer to finals
Compassion FA are inching closer to making it to the finals of the second edition of the 2nd Inspire Cup All India Inter Academy football tournament organised by the RDT’s Anantpur Sports Academy in Andhra Pradesh.

After beating Ranchi's YUWA, the Goan girls made the best of the nonavailability of a regular goalkeeper and a few key players of Chennai’s Life Sports Academy to score a resounding 16-0 victory. Fatima scored 7 goals, Pearl 6 goals and Amie slammed three goals to almost book their berth in the finals.

Compassion have two more matches to play, against Thadam FA from Tamil Nadu and the hosts Ananathpur Sports Academy. Positive results in the two matches will confirm the Goan team’s passage into the final.
