DOHA, QATAR
Forca Mumbai (Senegal) won the 5-a-side Goan World Cup 2022 organised by Goan Boyz Qatar which was held recently at Al Jazeera School Ground, Abu Hamour.

In the final Forca Mumbai defeated Ghana FC Bombay 3-2 in a penalty shootout. At the end of the normal period of play, the teams were locked goalless. In the tiebreaker, Senegal goalkeeper Craig D’Souza came up with a brilliant save to clinch the winners' trophy for his team. Craig (Senegal goalkeeper) was also awarded the Golden Gloves. The Golden Boot was jointly awarded to Shaher and Naheel (Ghana).

The runners-up trophy and medals were presented to Ghana and the winners' trophy, medals and cash prize was awarded to the winners (Senegal) team. Six teams took part in the event, namely, Senegal Forca Mumbai, Spain FC, Croatia De Calangute, Ghana FC Bombay, Argentina Weekend warriors and Brazil St Sabastian.

In the tiebreaker for couples, the husband and wife combination of Jaselbek and Lui Fernandes got the better of Savio and Sabina. Both the finalists were given trophies and medals. The event turned out to be an all-family entertainment event with a lot of spot prizes given away by the organisers for children and adults.

“We Goan Boyz Qatar wanted to bring our fellow Goans together and celebrate the World Cup that will happen in Qatar 2022 from November 20 by organising the tournament. The intention was to bring the Goan community together on the football pitch and mix it with other games and quiz competitions,” said Collin Fernandes.

The objective of the organisers was served with a huge turnout for the tournament which included children and women. The organisers had a special thanks for Donald Pereira, Mario Fernandes (DJ), Carvalho, Pires and grandchildren, Jeronimo Dsouza, Ronald (Siolim), Morgan Fernandes, and many well-wishers.

Collin Fernandes gave the vote of thanks and also thanked Edrly Rebello and Morgan Viegas for all the support towards the tournament and helping to organise the tournament. He also said a much bigger Gulf Cup is on the cards in February and he is looking for sponsors.
