A first-half goal from Reagan Costa in the 14th minute helped Fr Agnelo Paroda secure a 1-0 victory over Maina Sports Club in the Lourdes Trophy, organized by the Ambelim Sports Club.
The match, held at the Ambelim Sports Club ground, saw both teams showcase an exciting brand of football from the outset. In the opening minutes, Maina’s goalkeeper Prakash Joshi made a crucial save, diving full length to deny Naresh Gaonkar’s attempt, deflecting the ball for a corner. At the other end, Benju Clement made a timely clearance after Joysten Rebello found space in the goal area. The midfield battle was intense, with both teams pushing for control.
In the 14th minute, Reagan Costa dribbled past a couple of defenders and calmly placed the ball over the onrushing keeper, giving Paroda the lead that proved to be the match-winner. Despite Maina’s relentless efforts to find an equaliser, the Paroda defence, led by Leevan and Clement, remained solid throughout.
The prize distribution ceremony was attended by Fr Clifford Cardoso, Fr Shawn D'Silva, and Fr Camilo Dias, who awarded the top performers. Pravesh Gaonkar was named Best Goalkeeper, Reagan Costa received Best Striker, Aliston Fernandes was honoured as Best Defender, and Milagres Fernandes of Maina Sports Club won Best Midfielder. Benjamin Silva proposed the vote of thanks.
