Anil Painguinkar, former Vice President of the Goa Badminton Association, passed away following a heart attack on Sunday. He was 68.
A badminton player himself and winner of various veterans doubles titles, Anil was the uncle of the late Rasik Painguinkar, one of Goa's best-known shuttlers. He was the President of Ponda Shuttlers, a remarkable organizer whose contributions to sports in Goa, particularly in badminton, were vast.
"The Goa Badminton Association expresses its deepest condolences to Anil Painguinkar's family and friends. His dedication, passion, and contributions to badminton in Goa will be cherished. Anil's legacy will continue to inspire badminton players and organizers," said Manoj Patil, the Goa Badminton Association President.
"Gone too soon. Dashing, smiling, striking personality from Ponda. Former Veterans champion. Very active organiser who regularly organised annual Major Ranking tournaments in Ponda and also the Rasik Memorial Tournaments in Margao. He was of great help to us during our previous tenures and performed the roles given to him meticulously and with utmost sincerity. RIP Anil bab. Your enthusiasm and exuberance on and off the badminton courts will be missed. Om Shanti," said Sandeep Heble, former Secretary of the Goa Badminton Association.
"Very sad news. He was my doubles partner on many occasions. We were friends for at least the last 40-odd years. In the early days, we used to play in Panjim since he used to be here. It's a big loss of a good friend and our colleague at GBA for many years. May his soul rest in peace," stated Narahar Thakur, former GBA President.
"Myself as a badminton player and coach, I feel as if I have lost the shuttle. RIP Anilbhai," expressed Dhana Shirsat, Ponda Badminton coach with sadness.
"Our best friend Anil Painguinkar Bhai left us today. We will miss him forever. He was like a mentor, guide, and much more. Dev tumchyaa aatmyas sadgati deu. Om Shanti," said Nishad Bakhale, Ponda Veterans player and his club colleague.
