Goa Police Veterans beat Senior Citizens FC (North) Goa 2-1 in an exhibition football match played at Police Headquarters ground, Panaji.
While the Senior Citizens dominated the first half and surged ahead with a snap goal by former Sesa Goa player and now FIFA referee Gokuldas Nagvekar. Goa Police came charging at the end of the first half and equalised through Mahesh Sawaal. The cops went ahead in the second half with a strike by Umesh Pauwaskar, who breached a strong defence led by former Top ex cop Allen D'Sa.
Padmashri Brahmanand Sankhwalkar, former India captain and Arjuna awardee, proved he is still a hard nut to crack under the bar with his super saves. Senior Citizens FC nearly levelled the scores but Agnelo Fernandes failed to beat the goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation.
Chief guest Jaspal Singh, IPS, DGP Goa gave away mementos to Senior Citizens players and Caitano Jose Fernandes, president of GFA who sponsored the exhibition match, distributed the prizes to the Goa Police team.
Hilary Fernandes, president of the Senior Citizens FC, thanked Goa Police and especially Bosco George, IPS Superintendent of Police, Sports and Wilson D'souza, GPS Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sports for inviting them and organising the exibition match. While police dogs showed their talent and ATS team exhibited their skills during the half-time break, the police brass band entertained the crowd with their traditional music.
