Actor and team owner John Abraham has said that competing on home streets adds emotional and professional responsibility ahead of the Goa leg of the Indian Racing Festival, scheduled for February 14 and 15.
Abraham, who owns Goa Aces JA Racing, said racing in Goa carries a different significance compared to permanent circuits.
“A street race in Goa changes the emotion and responsibility completely,” he said. “This isn’t just about points or podiums. We’re racing in front of our people, in our city, and that adds a sense of responsibility you don’t feel anywhere else. It becomes deeply personal.”
He said street circuits demand greater discipline from drivers. “Unlike permanent circuits, street racing is tighter and more unforgiving. You have to respect the roads, the barriers, and the environment you’re racing in. It forces discipline and humility,” Abraham said.
Abraham also linked the event to the State’s sporting profile. “Events like this put Goa firmly on India’s sporting map,” he said. “Now, it’s also being seen as a destination for world-class sport. That visibility boosts tourism, brings global attention, and creates a new identity for the State.”
On preparation, he said the team had focused on advance planning. “On a street circuit, there’s no room to try things out mid-race. Preparation has to be done well in advance,” he said, adding, “One small lapse can end your race. That reality sharpens focus.”
Goa Aces JA Racing will field an experienced line-up, led by Raoul Hyman, a two-time defending champion. “Raoul understands pressure better than most,” Abraham said.
Indian driver Akash Gowda is also part of the squad. “Akash’s international exposure strengthens the competition back home,” Abraham said.
The team also includes Chetan Surineni, winner of the Rookie Racer title in Italy, and Fabienne Wohlwend, a former W Series competitor and Nürburgring 24 Hours podium finisher.
“Fabienne brings global credibility and inspiration,” Abraham said.
He added that street racing brings fans closer to the sport. “When racing comes into the city, fans don’t just watch it; they feel it,” he said. “For Goa, having the home team race on its own streets makes this weekend truly special.”
