Goa University qualified for the league stage of the ongoing West Zone Inter University Football Men's Championship 2022-23 in Jabalpur. The team has qualified for the All India Inter University Football Championship 2022-23 to be held at University of Kota, Kota.
In the qualifying matches held at Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalaya, Jabalpur, Goa University won five consecutive knockout matches. In the first match, they defeated Gondwana University 9-0. Arnold Oliveria, Sainath Kankonkar and Britto Pereira scored a goal each while Aliston Fernandes, Atmaram Jadhav and Pratik Naik netted two goals each.
In the second match, Goa University defeated HSNC University Mumbai 2-0. Pratik Naik and Arnold Oliveria were the scorers. In the third match, they defeated MCB University, Chatrapur 6-0. Pratik Naik, Alent Colaco, Edson Souza, Jenniton D'Silva, Aliston Fernandes and Stalen Lucas scored.
In the fourth match, Goa University beat MLS University, Udaipur 5-1. Pushkar Prabhu, Pratik Naik and Britto Pereira scored a goal each and Stalen Lucas netted a brace. In the playoff match, Goa University defeated defending champions SP University, Pune 2-0 riding on a brace from Anuj Kuttikar.
In the first match of the league played on Saturday, Goa University defeated hosts Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalaya, Jabalpur 1-0. In a well-contested match, the lone goal was scored by Atmaram Jadhav in the 74th minute.
Goa University will play another two matches in the league against University of Kota, Kota and LNIPE, Gwalior. Accordingly, the winner of the league will be the champions of West Zone Inter University Football Championship for men.
