Goan Hockey celebrates Olympic Day with action on field

In commemoration of Olympic Day, Goan Hockey organised a series of vibrant activities across North and South Goa districts, culminating in thrilling hockey matches held at prominent venues. The action-packed events took place at Angel Astro Turf in Benaulim in South Goa, and Mapusa Peddem Sports Complex in North Goa.

At Benaulim, the tournament saw spirited participation with seven teams competing fervently. In the girls' section, Rosary Higher Secondary Navelim emerged victorious, triumphing over St Jude High School Betalbatim with a 3-1 scoreline. Meanwhile, in the boys' section, Damodar English High School Gudi secured a win by defeating Our Lady of Lourdes High School Utorda.

Simultaneously, at the Mapusa Sports Complex, three captivating matches unfolded. Amla Convent girls from Tamil Nadu faced a tough challenge from Junior Goa girls, ultimately losing 1-7. In the finals, the Goa Junior girls clinched victory over Goa Sub Junior girls (Red) in a tense match that ended 0-0 in regulation time, with a 3-2 final score after the tiebreaker.

The gathering was graced by Rev Fr Milchester Furtardo, Headmaster of St Anthony Monte de Guirim, as the chief guest, and John Rodrigues, OSD to the Mayor of CCP, who was the guest of honour.

Fr Furtardo commended the initiative and extended his best wishes to the players for their future endeavours. He also wished the Indian contingent luck for the upcoming Paris Olympics. He presented prizes to the teams and players.

Ferral Furtardo, Secretary of Goan Hockey, welcomed the attendees, while Nelly Rodrigues delivered a vote of thanks.
