Students of the Government school, Dabolim, got a rare opportunity to watch top-level cricket live as they attended World Legends Pro T20 league matches featuring national and international players at the 1919 Sportz Cricket Stadium in Verna on Saturday evening.

The students, accompanied by their principal, teachers and staff, were invited to the stadium by its owner and Chicalim Panchayat sarpanch Kamla Prasad Yadav.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Yadav said his association with the Dabolim government school was deeply personal and emotionally rooted in his own childhood experiences.

“I share a special bond with this school. Sitting with these students brings out the child in me and takes me back to my school days. We were not financially well-off during my childhood and life was a struggle. When I see these children enjoying themselves, it reminds me of those days,” Yadav said.

He added that his family’s long-standing connection with the institution had strengthened his commitment towards supporting it. “My sister studied in this school and many of my close friends were students here. I have always felt attached to the school. When God blessed me financially, I felt it was my responsibility to give back and support the children in every possible way,” he said.

Yadav said he had already provided a school bus to help students commute from distant areas such as Birla and Zuarinagar. “Several students were unable to afford daily travel. I offered the school a bus so that no child drops out due to transport issues,” he said, adding that he has also committed to constructing additional classrooms at his own expense to address the shortage of space.

Sharing the thought behind inviting students to the stadium, Yadav said, “This stadium was built to promote cricket. I wanted these children to watch international players live, something they may never have experienced otherwise. Seeing their happiness gives me the greatest satisfaction. I want them to draw inspiration from these matches and take sports seriously. If any other school approaches me, I am willing to bring their students here as well.”

The headmistress of the Government school, Dabolim, expressed gratitude to Yadav for the gesture.
