The banned bullfights have returned back to haunt the men-in-uniform as reports emanating from Seraulim village spoke of a fan sustaining injuries at a bullfight that took place on Sunday evening.

The Colva police, however, said that the cops are verifying the reports and will initiate action against the accused.

Sources informed that a fan sustained injuries after a bull tried to run out of the venue without locking horns with the rival. In the process, a bullfight fan is believed to have sustained injuries and has been rushed to hospital.

When the media tried to verify the reports from the Colva police, the police on duty maintained that no offence is registered at the police station. In fact, a police officer pointed out that the police are on the job to verify the reports, promising action.

Last year, a man from Chandor-Guirdolim was gored to death at a bullfight that had taken place in the jurisdiction of Colva police station.

A month ago, South Goa Additional Collector-II Ramesh Gaonkar had issued a memorandum calling for the strict compliance of the High Court directions on the banned bullfight in the State.

The memorandum had directed the Police Inspector, Colva Police Station to ensure thorough investigation of the case already registered in the matter pertaining to a bullfight that had taken place at Seraulim.

In fact, the Additional Collector had told the Colva police to identify the organisers, landowners and participants involved in the banned bullfight.

The Deputy Collector and SDM II were also directed by the Additional Collector to strictly monitor prohibitory orders, if required, to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
