Hockey South Goa is organising a Junior Men and Women championship 2024 from April 4 for South Goa clubs, according to a letter circulated to all the clubs registered in South Goa.
The letter dated March 27, which has been signed by Abhay Bhamaika, President of Hockey South Goa and Nelly Rodrigues, General secretary Nelly Rodrigues has not mentioned the venue where the tournament will be held.
According to the letter, players born on or after 1/1/2005 are eligible to participate in this tournament.
“Send your confirmation at the earliest to [email protected]. Please act urgently and I apologize for sending late,” the letter added.
Besides, Bhamaikar and Nelly Rodrigues, the other members of the Executive Committee of South Goans Hockey are Vice President Russel Fernandes and treasurer is Anjulo Fernandes.
The Executive Members are Beny Viegas, Inacio Fernandes, Joaquina Mascarenhas, Joaquim Da Costa. The Co-Opted Members are Farrel Furtado, Valanka D'souza and Amit Desai.
The list of South Goa clubs circulated by Goans Hockey, the body controlling all matters relating to the game in the state, ahead of the now postponed President elections shows nine clubs registered from South Goa namely: Goa Hockey Promoters, Innovation Sports, Majorda Hockey Club, Maina Sports Club, Integrated Welfare Trust, Bambina Recreational Club, Navelim Hockey Club, Guddi Sports Club, Star Sports Cultural Club and Hockey South.
The North Goa clubs are Alto Porvorim Sports and Cultural Club, Crozen Society, Don Bosco Oratory Sports and Cultural Club, Goa Maverick's Sports and Cultural Club, Stars of Satari, San Antonio Warriors and Young Sports Club along with North Goa District Association.
Meanwhile, Nelly Rodrigues has informed that South Goans Hockey will be conducting a hockey camp for girls and boys at Seraulim ground from April 3 from 8:45 am to 10:30 am.
Students for the camp are to report to the venue with full kit to the coaches.
Incidentally, South Goa does not have any astro turf ground with most of the matches conducted by South Goans Hockey are played either on mud or grass grounds.
The only astroturf in the state is situated at Peddem ground, Mapusa.
