MARGAO: Iqbal XI entered the semifinals of the 2nd Chandrakant Karapurkar Trophy after beating Bannerman of Margao by 70 runs, at SAG Fatorda ground, on Friday.
Winning the toss, Skipper Govind Gaonkar put Iqbal XI to bat and the strong side methodically built up their innings and ended the innings at 187 in 19.5 overs. Aniket Parab (66) of 38 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes. Govind Gaonkar brought things under control with a good spell of 4 for 34 off 3.5 overs.
The target of 188 proved to be stiff as Bannerman were all out for 117 off 15 overs. Sankalp Pednekar and Ashok Rathod snapped 3 wickets each.
Iqbal will now meet the winners of Chowgule and Bicholim CC in the semis on April 26.
