Fifty trained lifesavers, advanced AI-powered robots, and specially trained rescue dogs will ensure the safety of triathletes at the upcoming IRONMAN 70.3 Goa. This triathlon event kicks off on Sunday with a swim in the Arabian Sea off Miramar Beach.
The event organizers have partnered with Drishti Marine, a lifesaving agency appointed by the state government to prevent drowning and handle emergencies along Goa’s coastline. They are implementing a strong safety plan for the swimming portion, which covers 1.9 km.
From Drishti Marine, there will be a team of 50 lifesavers stationed at the beach. They will be supported by five jet skis, 30 surfboards, two rescue vehicles, and two motorboats to respond to any emergencies. Additionally, two rescue dogs from the agency’s ‘Paw Squad’ will be present at the beach to help with safety.
To enhance emergency readiness, Drishti Marine will set up two medical posts equipped with trained personnel and rescue vehicles to address medical emergencies quickly. The lifesavers at these posts are trained in essential first-aid procedures.
Drishti Marine will also use advanced technology, including their self-driving robot AURUS and the AI-powered TRITON, which monitors non-swim zones to identify potential threats and help lifesavers prevent accidents. Together, AURUS and TRITON will provide comprehensive safety coverage for the athletes.
“Our lifesavers are fully prepared to handle any emergencies that may arise. The AI robots and our specially trained dogs will ensure comprehensive support during the event”, said an official from Drishti.
The IRONMAN 70.3 Goa is a challenging triathlon, covering a total distance of 113 km. It consists of a 1.9 km swim, a 90 km (56-mile) cycling segment, and a 21.1 km (13.1-mile) run. The event has attracted participants from over 50 countries in the past, making it a notable occasion for athletes from around the world.
