Lazy Boys FC clinched the title of the 1st All Goa 5-a-Side Futsal Championship organized by Verna Sports Club, triumphing over Varian Brothers in a nail-biting showdown that ended with a thrilling tiebreaker.
After the full-time score settling at 2-2, Lazy Boys FC emerged victorious with a 5-3 victory in the tiebreaker. The hero of the match for Lazy Boys was Clencio Pinto, who netted both their goals. Meanwhile, Savio Pereira and Sherwin Fernandes found the net for Varian Brothers.
At the concluding function, Leandra Paula Pacheco, daughter of former MLA Micky Pacheco from the Nuvem Constituency, was the chief guest, while Climax Lawrence, former India international, was the guest of honour.
During halftime, Necio Fernandes, a standout player from Dempo SC, was felicitated for his exceptional performance at the Santosh Trophy this year. Additionally, Joaquim Abranches, former India international, Fulgencio Cardozo, ISL winner, and Hilton Fernandes, AIFF Futsal Championship runner-up, were also felicitated.
Sancen Fernandes, President of Verna SC, extended gratitude to all participants and attendees in his Vote of Thanks following the prize distribution ceremony. The tournament was inaugurated by Fr Lucio Dias, Parish Priest of Holy Cross Church, Verna. The champions, Lazy Boys FC, were awarded a cash prize of Rs 40,000, while the runners-up, Varian Brothers, received Rs 30,000.
