The experienced duo of Marina Albuquerque and Rupchandra Humraskar stole the show at the BPS State Ranking Veterans Badminton Tournament 2025, held at the Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium, Navelim, with both completing impressive triple crown victories.
Marina reigned supreme across three categories ” winning the Women’s Singles 35+, Women’s Doubles 35+ (with Jayashree Fernandes), and Mixed Doubles 55+ (partnering Wilfred Jacques) titles. Rupchandra, equally dominant, bagged the Men’s Singles 60+, Men’s Doubles 60+ (with Cholu Gauns) and Mixed Doubles 60+ (teaming up with Judy Braganza) crowns, showcasing his enduring mastery on court.
The tournament, organised by BPS Sports Club in collaboration with the Goa Badminton Association and the Sports Authority of Goa, featured events in 35+ to 70+ age groups and was one of the selection tournaments for the Masters Nationals scheduled later this season at Jammu. Adding to the champions’ list, several players secured double crowns in style. Darwin Barreto captured both the Men’s Doubles 50+ (with Sandip Kanji) and Mixed Doubles 50+ (with Supriya Pai Kuchelkar) titles, while veteran stalwart Cancio Mascarenhas clinched the Men’s Singles 65+ and Men’s Doubles 65+ (with Summerwell Da Gama) events. Wilfred Jacques too had a fruitful run, lifting the Men’s Singles 55+ and Mixed Doubles 55+ (with Marina Albuquerque) trophies.
Kamlesh Kanji emerged champion in both Men’s Doubles 45+ (with Parag Chauhan) and Mixed Doubles 45+ (with Poonam Chauhan), while Dr Ankush Patil completed a fine double by taking the Men’s Singles 40+ and Men’s Doubles 40+ (with Kunal Sanvordenkar) titles. Navneet Nasnodkar triumphed in the Men’s Singles 35+ and Men’s Doubles 35+ (with Jatinder Singh), whereas Amit Kakkar impressed in both Men’s Singles 45+ and Mixed Doubles 40+ (alongside Preetika Kakkar).
Tanaji Sawant claimed the Men’s Doubles 70+ (with Pradeep Dhond who also won 70+ Singles) and Mixed Doubles 65+ (with Roseline Bunyan) titles, while Vineeta Adpaikar bagged the Women’s Singles 45+ and Women’s Doubles 45+ (with Milagrina Mascarenhas) events. Louanne Almeida rounded off the list of double crown winners, capturing the Women’s Doubles 40+ (with Rashmi Lobo) and Mixed Doubles 35+ (with Parteek Mahajan) trophies.
