Navelim SC storm into Cana Benaulim finals

Navelim Sporting Club beat Curtorim Gymkhana 7-6 via tiebreaker to storm into the finals of the Cana Benaulim Panchayat Cup football tournament organised by Cana Benaulim SA and played at St John de Baptista Ground, Dando Benaulim on Wednesday. Navelim SC took the lead through Velington Almeida in the 12th minute. Navelim doubled their lead through Prestley Gomes in the 54th minute. Down by two goals, Curtorim Gymkhana added pressure and scored two quick goals through Cavin Louis and Milagres Fernandes in the 56th and 60th minutes respectively. In the resultant tiebreaker, Navelim SC proved to be the better shooters. 


Candolim Sports Club pip Fr Agnelo YSC 

MARGAO: Candolim Sports Club edged past Fr Agnelo YSC of Paroda 2-1 to enter into the semifinals of the 15th St Anthony’s Festival Soccer Inter-village Football Tournament at Moll Ground, Assolda on Wednesday. Aman Govekar gave Candolim SC the lead in the 20th minute of the match which was later cancelled by Joel Barreto in the 26th minute for Fr Agnelo YSC. Rajat Chopdekar netted the winning goal for Candolim SC in the 48th minute.


GFA to hold New Referees Course 

MARGAO: The Goa Football Association (GFA) will be conducting a New Referees Course on weekends starting from July 1. There is a good scope for young boys and girls to become a qualified referee for officiating in the GFA leagues, whereby one can earn part-time, as a referee, stated a press release. Recently, the All India Football Federation has recruited full-time professional elite referees on contract for a remuneration of around Rs 80,000 per month. Therefore, it would be a wonderful opportunity for all students or unemployed youth above 18 years old to make a career as a Referee, it added. Those interested are requested to report to Francisco Nunes, Executive Committee Member (Contact No: 9822120807) or Anthony J D’Costa, Head of Referees (Contact No: 9421152769/7020780763) at Chicalim Panchayat Hall sharp at 2 pm.

Holy Cross boys U14 win yoga competition

MARGAOIdeal Education Societies Holy Cross Institute bagged first place in the yoga competition U-14 years boys category at Quepem taluka level organised by DSYA.
