Nerul Sports Club scored a hard-fought solitary goal win over Saligao United to move into the finals of the 15th London Trophy inter-village football tournament organised by Goa Velha Sports Club at Goa Velha Sports Club ground.
Nerul surged ahead in the 15th minute through Atul More, who shot past Agustin D'Mello in the Saligao goal after an initial effort by Bhavesh Candolkar was saved by Agustin D'Mello. Deu Sangelkar missed a glorious chance to increase the lead for Nerul as Agustin made a superlative save in a one-on-one situation.
Nikhil Naik then saw his effort from a distance go wide of the Nerul goal in the 25th minute. In the second half dominated by Saligao United, Kendrick Menezes had his effort from close saved by Nerul keeper Krupesh Bandodkar in the 60th minute. Atul More of Nerul was awarded the Man of the Match prize by Derrick Mendes, Life Member, Goa Velha SC.
Mushtifund HS win U-14 boys swimming title
Mustifund High School Cujira won the State under-14 boys swimming championship organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs at Ponda swimming pool.
Mustifund bagged the team championship with 18 points -- 1 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze. Saharsh M Parab won the gold in 50m backstroke and a silver in 100m freestyle while Nathan Raposo won two silver in 100m butterfly and 200m individual medley. Deep Naikdesai won a silver in 50m backstroke and a bronze in 100m breaststroke.
People's High School, Mala Panaji and Sharada Mandir High School, Panaji scored 15 points to be runners-up. Rosary High School, Cujira scored 8 points to claim third place.
Madgaon Royals drub Laziz Super Kings
Madgaon Royals beat Laziz Super Kings by 8 wickets and 41 balls to spare at MCC Ground, Margao in the EMR Sarsangan Super Series Cricket.
Put in to bat first, LSK put up 124/8 in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to their captain Amod Borkar who did the bulk of the scoring making 45 (37 balls, 6x4s). In reply, Royals openers Damodar Pai Patnekar 52* (38 balls, 8x4s, 1x6s) and Aditya Dalal 17 (9 balls, 1x4s, 1x6s set up the chase before Mihir Audi 30* (23 balls, 3x4s, 1x6s) took them home.
Later the match between Mapusa Dream Crushers and PDK Kings ended in a tie. Mapusa Dream Crushers lead the points table with 3 points from 2 matches, followed by Madgaon Royals and Salcete Stallions with 2 points each from their opening matches.
