Nine High Schools and Higher Secondary Schools will be taking part in the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs Under-17 Nehru hockey tournament which begins from September 18 at Peddem ground Mapusa.
As per the draw circulated to all the participating teams, 12 teams were to take part in the tournament, but three of the educational institutions have pulled out of the tournament after submitting their initial entries for the same.
In the original draw, nine North Goa teams were to vie for the top pale and for the onward journey to Delhi to represent the state at the national championship.
Of the three teams which have pulled out of the event, one is from South Goa and the other two are from North Goa.
Damodar English Higher Secondary School has withdrawn from the competition, while the High School team will still be seen in action, while St Jude High School Betalbatim is the second team which will be in action.
With the withdrawal of Vidya Prabodhini HSS Porvorim, Damodar English HS Gudi Paroda will now take on Immaculate Heart of Mary, Goa Velha in their quarter-final encounter on September 19 at 9.30 am.
On the same day, St Jude High School Betalbatim will clash with Holy Cross High School Bastora at 10 am in the second quarter-final.
In the lower half of the draw, Shri. Bhumika HSS Parye will meet Fr. Agnel HSS Pilar on September 18 at 2.30pm, while Holy Cross HS Siolim which were scheduled to clash with DM's PVS Kushe HSS Assagao, will now move into the quarter-finals with the withdrawal of the Assagao Higher Secondary school.
The Siolim school will now meet St Anthony HS Guirim opponent in the last eight round clash.
Honda HS, Honda, which has got a bye into the quarters will take on the winners of the Shri. Bhumika HSS Parye-Fr Agnel HSS Pilar clash.
