DOHA, QATAR
With Qatar gearing up to host the FIFA showpiece event in another 122 days, fans of different countries, which have qualified for the World Cup and based in the host country are busy organising events to increase their fan base and bring all of them under one banner.
“We Portugal fans in Qatar are planning many programmes and events that will showcase our unity and passion towards the beautiful game and team Portugal. As a part of that, we will be organising a Dhow trip in Katara on July 22 at 4 pm,” read a message circulated among the four fans groups and also on other social media channels.
Portugal also has a large following in India, among its former colonies like Goa, Daman, Diu, Nagar and Haveli and also in large parts of Kerala. A large number of fans from these places were expected to attend the Friday function. Citizens of Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, São Tomé and PrÃncipe, citizens from the former Portuguese colonies based in Qatar were also expected to attend the meet.
The event promises to be an amazing fun-filled evening for the entire family, the organisers said. “This will be a great opportunity for all fans to meet one another in person and make some new friends.”
