Clive Miranda struck the lone goal of the game as Cortalim Villagers SSWA recorded a solitary goal win over Churchill Brothers FC Goa in a Goa Professional League match at Nagoa Panchayat ground, on Monday.
The teams battled on an even keel from the word go. There were chances created but neither side was able to score. The teams maintained good shape in the first 45 minutes but had to walk away goalless at the break.
The decisive moment arrived in the second half when Clive Miranda capitalised on an opportunity culminating from a beautiful set piece from Denil Rebello. Denil's curling cross was met masterfully by Clive, who headed in to find the back of the net in the 66th minute.
This solitary goal proved to be the game-changer, securing the win for Cortalim Villagers and eliciting loud cheers from the home crowd.
Both teams displayed commendable efforts but rough play did feature in the game as Francis D of Cortalim received a yellow card in the 20th minute, while Vedant Naik and Trijoy of Churchill faced similar disciplinary action with yellow cards in the 40th and 58th minutes, respectively.
As tensions rose towards the end of the match, Cortalim’s Cyril Dias and Dishu Singh also found their names in the referee's book with yellow cards in the 86th and 90+1 minutes, respectively. Cortalim’s Clive Miranda was named the Player of the Match.
Meanwhile, at Ella ground, Dempo SC scored a comfortable 2-0 win over Geno FC.
Beckham Dias and Shreyash Naik scored a goal each for the winners. The winners led 1-0 at the break. Dempo SC’s Sairon Albuquerque was named the Player of the Match.
In the GFA U-13 League, Ave Maria AWC defeated St Francis Xavier SC Xeldem 6-3.
