MARGAO
Propedalerz Cycling Club’s 3rd annual Duathlon event ‘Vorrad 5:55’ was kicked off by North Goa Superintendent of Police Nidhin Valsan on Sunday, which received an overwhelming response.
Propedalerz Cycling Club is one of the oldest registered and active cycling clubs in Goa. Dr Vishwajit Faldesai, president of Propedalerz Cycling Club, welcomed all the participants and felicitated chief guest and Ironman 70.3 finisher Valsan, who flagged off the event. Among others felicitated for their support to cycling in Goa were Sameer Nadkarni of Xaxti Riders, Dr Wilfred Desa of Vasco Cycling Club and Freddie Colaco of Panjim Cycling Club.
The participants began from Benaulim beach to Betul, cycling for 55km along peaceful South Goa coastal roads and then they ran a 2.5 or 5km beach run of their choice in Benaulim. Of the 300-odd registrations, 262 participants started and successfully completed the duathlon which was well supported with ample parking, volunteers, signage, hydration, nutrition and security, washrooms, music and a sumptuous breakfast.
Vorrad 5:55 was conceptualized with the aim of introducing cyclists to running and runners to cycling as the benefits of cross-training are tremendous. Over the last 3 years, the event has seen a multiple fold growth in the number of participants. Many participants expressed happiness and satisfaction after participating in the event.
