Parish Youth Nuvem edged past Curtorim Gymkhana 5-4 via the tie-breaker in a thrilling match to move into the final of 14th London Trophy organised by Goa Velha Sports Club at Goa Velha Sports Club ground.
Curtorim Gymkhana surged ahead in the 20th minute of play through Aliston Fernandes, who kept his nerves and placed the ball into the net, off a Milagres Fernandes cross.
On resumption, Parish Youth Nuvem went all out in search for the equaliser and managed a few attempts on target which included Floiton Quadros’s shot which was saved by the keeper. The Curtorim side failed to defend effectively and were caught napping when Stephen Colaco headed home in the 55th minute, off a corner kick to level the scores.
In the penalty shootout, the Nuvem side scored through Inacio Colaco, Sanford Colaco, Joywin Costa, Aloysius Colaco, Lenin Colaco, while Curtorim Gymkhana scored through Nickson Castanha, Amar Estiberio, Mario Mascarenhas, Joshley Gomes while Clive Colaco’s kick was saved by the keeper.
Joe Cookies cruise into final
Joe Cookies Loutoulim Veterans defeated Nuvem Veterans 2-0 to move into the final of the Candolim Veterans football tournament organised by Candolim Veterans at Dr Gustavo Monteiro ground, Candolim on Sunday. Michael Barreto netted the first goal in the 35th minute. Two minutes, Michael's attempt was saved by Selvy Fernandes, the goalkeeper of Nuvem Veterans. Joe Cookies made it 2-0 in the 48th minute as Johny D'Cruz made it 2-0. Selvy Fernandes of Nuvem Veterans won the Man of the match award.
