Rosary College of Commerce & Arts, Navelim, and Don Bosco College, Panjim booked their spots in the final of the inter-collegiate women’s football championship with emphatic wins in the semi-finals held at the SAG Athletics Stadium, Bambolim.
In the first semi-final, Rosary College overpowered St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa with a commanding 5“0 victory. Vinoshka Fernandes opened the scoring in the 4th minute, followed by a quick second from Ria Pinto in the 9th. Rosary maintained their dominance in the second half, with goals from Merecia Tavares (57’), Swellen Fernandes (63’) and a second from Vinoshka Fernandes in the 89th minute sealing the win. In the second semi-final, Don Bosco College, Panjim outclassed Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda with another 5“0 scoreline. The first-half goals came from Kanishka Rekdo (38’) and Blessica Rodrigues (40’). The second half saw further dominance with Flani Costa scoring a brace (50’, 65’) and Blessica adding her second in the 68th minute. Best Performer: Flani Costa (Don Bosco College, Panjim)
The final between Rosary College, Navelim and Don Bosco College, Panjim promises a thrilling contest between two attacking powerhouses.
Meanwhile, in the men’s championship matches played at Goa University Ground, Goa College of Engineering (GEC), Farmagudi, and Government College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Quepem registered convincing wins to kick off their campaigns.
GEC defeated Vidya Prabodhini College, Porvorim 5“2, with Selwyn Fernandes scoring a brace (9’, 23’) and being named Best Performer. Additional goals came from Ruthik Gaonkar (21’), Aryan Carvalho (45’), and Vasudev Naik (56’). Vivek Kunkalkar (15’) and Mehboob Tembake (64’) scored for Vidya Prabodhini.
In the second match, Govt. College, Quepem blanked Narayan Zantye College, Bicholim 5“0. Samir Gaonkar netted two goals (20’, 66’) and was named Best Performer. Suraj Gaonkar (44’), Daksh Nadvimani (51’), and Viraj Govekar (63’) also got on the scoresheet.
Over at Rosary College Ground, Navelim, both scheduled matches ended in walkovers. St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa advanced after Kamaxi College, Verna failed to turn up, while Shree Mallikarjun & Shri Chetan Manju Desai College, Canacona were awarded a walkover against Goa College of Art, Altinho.
