Armando Sadiku, the 33-year-old Albanian striker of FC Goa this season has spoken to The Goan and shared his thoughts on this transition and his expectations for the season.
Sadiku expressed his happiness about moving to Goa. He mentioned that his first year in India, playing for Mohun Bagan Super Giants, was challenging due to the demanding schedule and the hot weather. "Last year, it was tough, with many games in Mumbai and other places. It was a big change from my previous experiences," he said.
Adjusting to life in Goa has been easier for Sadiku. He is now familiar with the city, the people, and the league. "Now, I feel more comfortable. I know the city, and I know the league. I believe this will be a very good year for me," Sadiku added.
Reflecting on his initial difficulties, Sadiku noted that adapting to the hot climate was challenging. However, he has acclimated and is confident about performing well from the start of the season. "In the beginning, it was very hot, and it was hard to run. But step by step, I adapted. Now, I am fully confident and ready for the first game," he said.
Sadiku also spoke about the recent Bausaheb Bandodkar Trophy, where he and his team performed well. He believes that such competitions are valuable for preparing for the Indian Super League (ISL). "The Bausaheb Bandodkar Trophy was a great competition. The teams were strong, and we played well despite the weather. We rotated the team each game, and I think we are well-prepared," he noted.
Sadiku is eager to contribute to FC Goa's success this season. He is determined to score goals and help the team win trophies. "Personally, I am hungry to score goals and contribute in every way possible. I want to help the team win and score more goals than I did in my first season in India," he said.
When asked if he sees himself competing for the title of best striker, Sadiku responded modestly. "I don’t know. Let’s see how the season goes. We’ll talk about it at the end of the season," he said with a smile.
Sadiku concluded the interview by expressing his optimism for the upcoming season. "Thank you very much. I am looking forward to it," he said.
With his experience and determination, Sadiku is set to be a key player for FC Goa as they aim for a successful season in the ISL.
