Senior Nat tennis-ball cricket: Goan teams reach quarters

The men's and women's teams of Goa advanced to the quarterfinals of the 32nd Senior National Tennis Ball Cricket Championship underway at Nagpur, Maharashtra.

On Day 3, Goa Women beat Tamil Nadu by five wickets in the pre-quarterfinals. Tamil Nadu won the toss elected to bat first, posting 35 for 2 in 6 overs. For Goa, Chetrali Mestri (6/1) and Ratika Naik (5/1) claimed the two wickets. In reply, Goa chased down the target in 3 overs. Deesha Kambli (10) and Rehana Kamat (8) starred in the five-wicket win.

Earlier, Goa Women defeated Purvanchal in their last league match to qualify for pre-quarterfinals. The team will play against Jharkhand on March 31 in the last-eight clash.

Goa men beat Purvanchal by a big 40-run margin to enter the quarterfinals. Put in to bat, Goa scored 73 for 4 in 6 overs; Namesh Kankonkar (19), Yash Anand (18) and Ajay Halgekar (18) being the top scorers. Defending the total, Goa restricted Purvanchal to 33/6 as Prasad Satarkar claimed 7/2. Goa Men will play Jammu & Kashmir in the quarterfinals on March 31. Earlier, in their last league match, they beat Daman & Diu by 7 wickets.
