Shuttler Tanisha gets India selection call

Goa's young badminton player Tanisha Crasto has got a selection call from the Badminton Association of India (BAI) for the prestigious Thomas and Uber Cup and the Sudirman Cup, which are to be held in Denmark and Finland later this year. 

The selection trials will be conducted by BAI at Pullela Gopichand Academy at Hyderabad from August 28. Tanisha is the reigning junior national champion in mixed doubles and is one of India's brightest young prospects. She is the lone Goan to feature in the TOPS Olympic scheme. Tanisha will be in the fray in mixed doubles and women's doubles. 

The 105 players called for the trials include both junior and senior shuttlers. Two-time Olympic medallist P V Sindhu, 2012 London Games bronze winner Saina Newhal, Tokyo Olympian B Sai Praneeth, 2016 Rio Olympics quarterfinalist Kidambi Srikanth and world No 10 Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy have been selected directly for the two events.
