Sao Jose De Areal SC secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over United Boys of Ambaulim to book their place in the final of the 18th All Goa Guirdolim Panchayat Cup, organised by Guirdolim Club and played at the Chandor Church Sports Complex.
The match began with United Boys of Ambaulim showing early intent, as Leedon, the dynamic midfielder, orchestrated play, distributing passes to forwards Teron and Selton. However, they were met by a resolute Areal defence, with Navil and Aryan putting in a solid performance to neutralise their attacking threats.
As the match progressed, Areal found their rhythm, with veteran midfielder Rayman taking charge of the game and providing much-needed composure. Despite several promising attacks from both teams, the first half ended goalless, with both sides' forwards unable to capitalise on their chances, thanks to the strong defensive displays from both teams.
The second half saw both teams lift their game, with the vocal Sunday crowd urging them on. In the 39th minute, Ambaulim took the lead when Teron spotted Areal goalkeeper off his line and expertly lobbed the ball from distance into the net.
Areal responded swiftly, and just seven minutes later, Rayman scored a stunning placement goal in the 46th minute to level the scores at 1-1. Both teams then pushed for the winner, with Areal’s Rayman almost scoring a glancing header in the 53rd minute, which narrowly missed the target. At the other end, Teron of Ambaulim missed a golden opportunity when he failed to tap in a cross from Leedon.
Rayman made amends for his earlier miss in the 56th minute when he calmly slotted home a cross from Gomindes, putting Areal ahead 2-1. Ambaulim fought hard to find an equaliser but were thwarted by strong defending from Navil, who made crucial clearances to ensure his team held on to the lead.
The match ended 2-1 in favour of Areal, who will now face Wilred Leisure SC, Curtorim, in the final on December 8.
Rayman Fernandes, who scored both goals for Areal, was named Player of the Match. The award was presented by John Fernandes, Executive Committee member of United Boys of Ambaulim.
