St Anthony Assolda emerged winners at the 19th All Goa 11-A-side inter-village Golden Jubilee football tournament after defeating Sao Jose De Areal 4-2 via the tie-breaker after the score read 1-1 during the regulation time.
The tournament was organised by Uguem Rising Club, at URC ground, Uguem.
The first goal of the match came through the boots of Alrich Peixoto of St Anthony Sports Club in the 15th minute. With a goal down, Sao Jose De Areal fought back and soon levelled the score through a snap shot taken by Aliston Dcosta following a corner-kick.
After changing ends, both the teams continued to display their best soccer but could not increase the lead due to the attacking play by the rival defenders. Sao Jose De Areal came close to score their second goal in the mid second half but the attempt was smartly saved by the Assolda goalkeeper. The match witnessed a couple of tense movements at the fag end of the match but were aptly dealt with by the match referee.
The winners took away a cash prize of Rs 60,550 and a trophy while the runners up had to content with cash prize of Rs 40,550 and a trophy. The following individual prizes were awarded:
Sanguem MLA and Minister for Archives Subhash Phaldessai was the chief guest for the prize distribution while Dr Caetano was the guest of Honour.
Earlier, URC felicitated Gold Medalist at the recently held National Games Babu Gaonkar and Special Olympics Gold Medalist Siya Sarode.
