Union of Chinchinim Villagers defeated SCC Loutolim 5-2 to secure a spot in the quarterfinals of the 2nd Fr. Bruno Leitao Memorial Cup 2024. The match, held on the Chinchinim Church ground on Tuesday, saw Chinchinim dominate possession and capitalize on scoring opportunities.
Chinchinim wasted no time, launching attacks from the opening minute. Senoy Oliveira nearly headed home from a Clarison Fernandes corner, but his effort went just wide. Chinchinim continued to control the ball, playing a quick passing game. Rohan created a chance in the 13th minute, dribbling past the Loutolim defense, but the Loutolim goalkeeper made a fantastic save.
Loutolim gradually regrouped, with Aniston DSilva threatening the Chinchinim goal. Rohan had another opportunity for Chinchinim in the 25th minute, but again, failed to convert with only the goalkeeper to beat. Just before halftime, the tide turned. Velroy Fernandes capitalised on a rebound from the Chinchinim goalkeeper to put Loutolim in the lead.
The second half saw a determined Chinchinim side enter the pitch. Their plan paid off quickly as Frankey Oliveira equalised with a well-placed shot in the sixth minute. Senoy Oliveira then took over the game, scoring two quick goals in succession to put Chinchinim in a commanding 3-1 lead. Clarison Fernandes extended the advantage to 4-1 in the 25th minute. Senoy Oliveira completed his hat-trick a minute later, making it 5-1.
Amston D'Silva pulled a goal back for Loutolim in the 28th minute, but it was too little, too late. Despite their spirited performance, Loutolim fell short. Velroy Fernandes, though on the losing side, was awarded the Player of the Match trophy by Colin Pereira, Panch member of Village Panchayat Chinchinim-Deussua.
