Vasco Veterans dump Calangute in tiebreaker

Vasco Veterans stormed into the final of the Assolna Veterans Football Cup with a 5-4 win via tiebreaker against star-studded Calangute Veterans on Tuesday. Tied goalless at the end of regulation time, Vasco kept their nerve and proved to be better shooters converting all five, while Robert Fernandes sent his spot kick wide to hand Vasco an entry into Saturday’s final. Vasco Veterans will now await the winners of the second semifinal between Navelim Veterans and hosts Assolna which will be played on Wednesday. The final is scheduled for May 20.


Bevan's brace fires St Rock to quarters

MARGAO: Scoring once in each half St Rock Majorda downed Goa Velha SC 2-0 to enter the quarterfinals of the Cavelossim Panchayat Rolling Trophy Intervillage Football Tournament at Fr Druston and Wellington ground, Cavelossim. Bevan D'Mello gave St Rock the lead in the 20th minute when he cleverly controlled a difficult pass from Wendell Coelho to shoot past the keeper. In the second half, Bevan completed his brace when he shot a long ranger which gave no chance to the keeper. Goa Velha hit back in vain when Lalush Talwar missed an easy chance to reduce the margin when he shot over the bar.


Sao Jose de Areal march into semis with 2-1 win

MARGAO: Sao Jose de Areal beat Fr Agnel YSC Paroda 2-1 and moved into the semifinal final of the Betalbatim Villagers Cup at Betalbatim ground on Tuesday. Areal opened the scoreline through Raymond in the 20th minute but the joy was short-lived as Velroy equalised for Paroda in the 30th minute. Raymond of Areal netted the match-winner in the 40th minute and was presented the man of the match award.
