VWL: Sinquerim rally to hold Compassion

Sinquerim Sports Club came from behind to hold Compassion Sports Club 2-2 in the 6th GFA Vedanta Women's League at Rosary ground on Thursday.

Compassion held the upper hand in both sessions but it was Sinquerim who rocked the rival citadel in the 16th minute when Riyadh Shaikh beat the rival goalkeeper. However, Compassion were unperturbed and scored in the 39th minute when international Karen Estrocio slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot to level the scores.

Compassion scored again as Stesi Cardozo beat the rival goalkeeper with a clinical finish in the stoppage time of the first half. Crossing over, Sinquerim were dominant but missed scoring the equaliser. In the 53rd minute, Komal Kallapa cancelled the lead for Sinquerim. 

MB United athletics school c'ship from Dec 5
After a gap of two years, MB United Sports and Cultural Club, Murida, Cuncolim will organise 2nd inter-school championships for various events under different age groups on December 5 at Government School Playground, from 8 am to 7 pm.

MB United will host inter-school championships (boys and girls) for athletics. The event will have U-8 50mts, under-10 100mts and long jump, under-14 100mts, 200mts, 400mts, long jump, shot put and 4x100mts relay, Under-16 100mts, 200mts, 400mts, 800mts, long jump, shot put and 4x10mts relay. Dalton Almeida, national gold medallist and Mario Moraes, Bombay University gold medallist, will grace the opening day function.

Oscar Martins, Secretary of MB United said that 496 participants would be vying for top honours in the one-day event. ‘‘I feel it’s a recognition of how much we are giving out to the society. There is no dearth of talented athletes in our State but what we strive to do is to develop them into well-rounded human beings. In today’s society, education is as important as their skill sets as they would be eventually the brand ambassadors for our State," he said.
