To commemorate the birth anniversary of the hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs organised a walkathon on the occasion of National Sports Day, on August 29.
To Mark the occasion, a week-long programme was organised from August 21 to 29 with competitions like Yogasana, Lagori, Rope Skipping, Badminton, Table Tennis, Futsal and Tug Of War for the school students and the general public.
The walkathon began with administering the Fit India Pledge to the participants. Sports Minister Govind Gaude flagged off the walkathon from the DSYA office at Campal. I started from the DSYA office to Yog Setu, Miramar walkway to the Swimming Pool, Campal and culminated at the DSYA office.
Students from Government High School, Dona Paula and Auxalium High School, Caranzalem participated along with the staff of DSYA, Sports Authority of Goa, Just Fitness group, staff and coaches of GFDC, Khelo India and the general public. A total of 250 participants participated in the event. They were presented with participation certificates at the hands of the Sports Minister.
